TRANSMISSION CABLE FAULT DISTANCE CALCULATOR
This paper proposes fault location model for underground cable using 8051 microcontroller. The objective is to calculate fault site in kilometer(s) from base station. It uses the concept of ô??²ô???ô???ô??¶ô???ô???ô???ô???ô???ô??? Voltage drop varies proportional to the location of fault since the current varies during short-circuit. Direct current voltage is fed at one end & the fault is detected using an Analog to Digital Converter & 8051 microcontroller Integrated Circuit which calculates the fault site which is further displayed on Liquid Crystal Display. The benefit of this fault detection scheme is that without digging the ground to check the fault in underground cables, location of faults could be detected & hence necessary action could be taken in shortest time with minimum cost spent.
